    Verden under vann

A popular-science book by marine biologist Pia Ve Dahlen about the beautiful, intelligent and fearsome animals of the sea, from the kelp forest down to the deep sea plains.

    Brief & Process

I did the illustrations for the book, and the endpapers too. I proposed the layout before the designer was brought in, and then worked with the designer on the cover.

I loved working on something this nerdy, with someone who knows this much about marine life. Pia’s passion for the sea shaped the illustration process.

    Monsterboka / Skald Forlag

Monsterboka is the fouth book in the kids’ anthology at Skald Forlag. It contains 20 different monster stories.

    About the project

I illustrated five books in a children’s anthology for Skald Publishing from 2007 until 2016. Monsterboka is the fourth book, written by a splendid collection of authors from the west coast of Norway – all in their own dialects.

I made aprx 200 small and large illustrations for the book, both for the stories, the end paper and the cover art and lettering. All illustrations are made in watercolor and ink.

  • Sagnet om Trollveggen

    Sagnet om Trollveggen

“Sagnet om Trollveggen” is an old story about the mountains in Romsdalen in Norway. I illustrated the book in 2012, and it has since been developed into a hiking trail, an animated short and a boardgame.

Illustrations for the book Sagnet om Trollveggen

These two characters are from the book “Sagnet om Trollveggen”, an old story about the mountains in Romsdalen in Norway.
Kind of a Romeo and Juliet tale, only the courting couple and their wedding guests are having such a wail of a time that they forget about morning, get hit by the sun and turn to stone and become the mountains in the area.

    About the project

The book was made to inspire walks and more use of the surrounding mountains, and one of my customers in my shop at Bryggen told me they found the book attached to a pole on one of the mountains! The pages had turned all hard from the weather, and it was still intact. Fun!

The book was developed by Frittgående Fruers Forlag. It picked up and lived its own life after we set out.

    The animated short

“Sagnet om Trollveggen” has also been made into an animated short, now sold to NRK. You can watch it here: nrksuper.no/program/MSUI46009020/trollveggen

    Eventurskogen

The short movie is a part of “Eventurskogen” at Norsk Tindesenter in Romsdalen, where the story and my illustrations have been developed into a discovery hike. My characters guide you along the way, and tasks are set at different posts. The project is developed by Heidi Leren at Anunatak together with animator Sigmund Ruud. You can read more about the design work for the Eventurskogen trail on Anunatak’s pages.

    The boardgame

“Sagnet om Trollveggen” has also been made into a foldable boardgame by the creators behind the book. You can find it in my web shop.

  • Fantasiboka / Skald Forlag

    Fantasiboka / Skald Forlag

The last in the series of books for my children’s anthology at Skald Forlag.

    About the project

In this book I’m not just the illustrator but also had my debut as an author!

Rosa is a character I developed for Fantasiboka (2016). She is a little warrior chasing down mythical creatures and taming or befriending them. I made the story because I love Wonder Woman, Agent X9, Agent Carter, Brandy from University, Lagertha, Lady Killer, Jessica Jones, “She” from Machete, Sarah Connor and other great characters in illustrated and fictional art. Girls or women in comics that can take a hit and deal them out accordingly, no wishy washy drama girl fights, but proper valkyrian badass strength and sword wielding.

These five books have been a wonder to work with.
